Good point! Let's have fun, then, and let's keep making progress by remaining "open, connected, future-oriented and creative"!

Paolo, because of this it becomes even clearer to me that the essence ofSF has not so much to do with 'having a positive approach' with compliments and encouragements as with 'finding out what works in the situation at hand'. So, with respect to t...

Hi Jesper! You write: "But an invitation to change perspective on a situation - is that a positive spin?" What do you think? Because the way you stated it, i am not sure... I would have answered no, if you just had framed the question a little b...

Ok, didn't get that point at first - you're right. But an invitation to change perspective on a situation - is that a positive spin? Like: "What if the other part was trying to achieve something good although it seems not to be appropriate from wh...

Hi Jesper! yes, most definitely: good intentions sometimes are not reflected in actual behaviors, and many behaviors (according to NLP, it is useful to presuppose that ALL behaviors do) have positive intentions at their roots. But it is the clie...

Thanks Paolo! At SOL summer university in Budapest 2007 one of my SF insights were: 'Conflicts is missing coordination between good intentions'. If looking at conflicts that way it helps me (and involved people) to approach something that stresses...

Hi Paolo,
Actually I already editid the whole video and
I think its 14 minutes and 680 MB.
So it is also to big for youtube. And I wouldn't want to
upload it there because some of the people I interviewed might not
want to be on that site.
I'll try to find out if i can make it smaller somehow.
I think Peter has a program to make movies smaller so they fit on
his iPod but i don't now wether the qualaty would be really good then.
Well I'll see! thanks for your help!!
cheers, Tabea

Hi Paolo,
just read that you won´t join the SOL 09 conference because of the magic of traveling to that island in the north sea. Would it change your situation if I offered you a seat in my car? I drive on the 13th/14th May from Germany and drive past Cologne/ the Netherlands and could pick you up anywhere! You´d spare one train... Best wishes (unknown) Gesa

Hello Paolo,
love the redwoods. And this beautiful photo.
How did you add it onto your page.
Would like to put one on my page - only worked with photos... As I want the photo to be protected - that would be good to know...
If ever you have time for an answer - would be great.
Tanti saluti
Monika

Solution - Focus practices as an open process

I strongly believe that the effectiveness of Solution-Focused practice is linked to its radical simplicity.

That is what makes Solution-Focused practices beautiful and elegant.

I also believe that what we are doing today is the seed of what we will be doing tomorrow.

In other words, Solution-Focused practice… Continue

Distinction: SF coaching vs. "being positive"

Inspired by the latest posting by Kirsten Dierolf,
I wrote something about SF vs. "being positive":

Solution-Focused coaching is not about “being positive”.
Solution-Focused is not about denying the reality of tough situations.

Solution-Focused coaching is about noticing what works - in a fact-finding manner.
It is about helping clients observe what they are doing: what d

Distinction: SF & Positive Psychology

New posting on my blog. Here is an excerpt:

Therefore:

IF therapy is about treatment and about helping people function in society (Using a sports metaphor, a therapist makes sure that an injured athlete recovers to compete again, via an effective rehab program)

AND

IF coaching
is about helping people function well in society, if it is about living better and about performing better (Using a sports metaphor, a coach makes sure that the athlete performs at his or her best, via an… Continue

Who knows better?

For a specific work assignment, I am brushing up on my NLP skills; more specifically, I'm reviewing my teaching materials on conversational hypnosis and persuasion strategies, as per a specific request by the client who hired me.

I am struck yet again by how traditional approaches differ from Solution-Focused ones.

Let's take negotiation skills: a topic that I teach in workshops and in which many clients want to be coached.
The NLP skills used in negotiation are designed to get the othe… Continue

Solution-Focused approaches & the Positive Deviance Process

In a recent posting I talked about an intervention for reducing hospital infections.
I noted how that intervention had all the ingredients of a Solution-Focused approach, and that the authors called that approach "Positive Deviance".
Some of my friends, in the comments, mentioned that "Positive Deviance" is a school of thought of its own.
That is undoubtedly correct.… Continue
