Wanted: Simple ways to be alerted with emails if something is new / changed

I searched the help.ning.com to learn more about the "logic" of email alerts... and had no success...

Well, what I observed in the meantime is, that it seems that I have to activate "follow - E-mail me when people reply" in ANY group (I am interested in) and to do this I have to become a member of that groups. BUT: No alerts are created if a new group is founded. So, I have to check the ning all few days to find out myself what's new.

And I have to activate "follow - E-mail me when people reply" in ANY "discussion" in the "forum" (I am interested in). And in contrast to new groups it seems, that alerts are created if a new discussion is started.

I have not found a possibility to activate E-mail alerts for Photos, Videos or Events.
So: If I don't check the ning all few days to find out myself what's new I will have no information about new or changed Photos, Videos or Events.

I will be happy if anyone found out more or other "tricks" to receive email-alerts from https://solworld.ning.com/ in a much simpler and broader way!

It seems, that is not enough to activate "Follow – E-mail me when people reply" or to include the RSS-feeder-URL's for ALL different groups, discussions,... you are interested in.

You also have to activate the "follow" / include the RSS-feeder-URL's WITHIN a group for EACH discussion in the group also.

Example:
If I want to follow the discussions of the Karlstad group I have to
add:
http://solworld.ning.com/group/karlstadgroup/forum?feed=yes&xn_...
This will give an RSS-alert only if new discussion is created.
But if I want to follow specific discussions in this group I have to add in addion:
http://solworld.ning.com/group/karlstadgroup/forum/topic/show?id=21...
and
http://solworld.ning.com/group/karlstadgroup/forum/topic/show?id=21...
And so on....

For alerts by email there is the same logic.

So, for me, the idea of ning seems to support in first instance functions to follow new entries and changes in very specific areas like single discussion-threads within specific groups and not the "integrating" information and discussion for a whole community.
For that a list like SOLUTION-L seems to fit better IMHO.
To follow all new things in the ning group I found out in the last weeks that this is best working:

Add to your RSS-reader (which is also a functional part of most mailreaders like thunderbird) this entry:

Text of the RSS-feed: Latest Activity on SOLWorld
URL of the RSS-feed: http://solworld.ning.com/activity/log/list?fmt=rss

But, of course, you receive with RSS only the title and the author of the new "thing" (e.g. a reply to a discussion) and not the content. In the message only the web-link to the content is given. So, to read the new things you must have a web browser and a good internet connection.

You also can open the RSS-feeder-URL http://solworld.ning.com/activity/log/list?fmt=rss with a web browser who supports RSS-feeds (e.g.: firefox or Microsoft)
