Sharing and building Solution Focused practice in organisations

I'd like to share a copy of my journal on improving the succession planning process in an organization. I strongly believe that this is a very relevant area for using SF -- this is an aspirational viewpoint that I would love to operationalize.

The current (strawman) version of my paper does not seem to employ SF. As a result, the navigation of the document from one section to another may seem to be abrupt and in giant steps. Instead I prefer to take baby steps so that I am following the SF way.

Hans-Peter Korn recommended that I reach out to SOLWorld and obtain feedback so that I can use this as an exercise and recharge my own SF focus via the refinement of this journal. Thanks for reviewing and providing comments.

Regards,

Ramu

Hi Ramu,

I am just going to download your article... In the meantime - few years ago I have read an article by Jozef Lievens on using SF at succession planning: "Resistance to succession arrangements is mainly in the mind".
Although the article is related to family business, it could be easily transferred to another context, I guess. It can be found at Louis Cauffmann's site (see section "Bookshelf", page 4).
In case of any difficulties please contact Louis directly, I am sure he will be able to help you... You can ask him for a copy of his own article "Challenging The Family Business: The Relational Dimension" as well.

Best wishes,

Kamila
Hallo again, Ramu,

I'd like to appreciate your aim to apply SF approach to succession planning in such a large company as is Microsoft. From my point of view your article seemed to be too complex to give you any concrete suggestion, anyway, perhaps you'll find useful some of following resources:

Towards creating strong corporate culture (ie. "understanding the passion, the history and the story behind Bill Gates") – please see Epston's and White's works on the narrative approach. Despite they developed their ideas in the field of psychotherapy, some parts could be easily applied in organisational context.

Towards creative leadership - please get in touch with Paul Z Jackson.

Towards surviving turbulent and highly competitive environment – please see books as Funky business, Karaoke capitalism or Strategy of blue ocean, etc.

Towards SF approach – please see books by Mark McKergow & Paul Z Jackson (and other books edited by SF books or written by other SOL members – you can find links in the Amazon widgets).

Towards SF change – please visit sites of Coert Visser and Mike Goran (he is a specialist on the SF “guerilla” approach) to find more resources.

Towards empowering customers – please get in touch with Alan Kay.

Towards surviving new challenges in IT industry – please see articles on agility added by Hans-Peter Korn and on “SCRUM” (a technique of -not only IT - project micro-management) added by Bart van Loon.

Towards small steps and “managing” the complexity – please get in touch with Michael Hjerth and Klaus Schenck.

I hope it will ease your orientation accross this site. :)

Cheers,

Kamila

You want to learn more about "Solution Focus"?

You prefer a "step by step" introduction instead to start with reading some

You would appreciate to have a complete "helicopter view" on SF after the first step…
